Comprising a well-established Research & Development department, FACTEM combines human expertise and state-of-the-art technical equipment to ensure the development and production of innovative and quality products. Additionally, FACTEM now offers its stakeholders services for providing equipment and resources, with or without the presence of its experts.

The Research & Development department of FACTEM represents more than a quarter of the company's workforce with 17 dedicated personnel, distributed across three areas of expertise: mechanical, electronic, and acoustic. The formation of a multidisciplinary team within the same establishment has enabled FACTEM to develop products that have become bestsellers in competitive and highly regulated markets, such as the FL20 communication headset with active noise attenuation for airlines (ETSO standards). Applied to various markets, these skills have positioned FACTEM as a major player in both civilian and military aerospace, naval, and land sectors.

Each year, FACTEM invests nearly 12% of its annual turnover in its R&D department, allocated, among other things, to acquiring new testing equipment for product qualification internally, in accordance with the standards applicable to these target sectors. FACTEM has various in-house equipment:

FACTEM's anechoic chamber allows for the measurement of sensitivity, response curves, and directivity necessary for the characterization of speakers, microphones, headphones, and handsets. This room, which has the rare feature of being anechoic on all six sides (including the floor), measures 42 m3. FACTEM offers this testing facility as a service, with or without the technical assistance of its teams trained in its use. Expertise, as well as acoustic developments and testing services, can be carried out in the anechoic chamber.

Continuously improving the performance of its products is an ongoing objective at FACTEM. This is why the company has equipped itself with a reverberation chamber, allowing the Acoustic department of the Engineering Office to study the performance of its transducers (microphones and earphones) for its active noise-canceling headset ranges. Our teams are capable of gathering information on the insertion loss of over-ear headphones and also assessing intelligibility in noisy environments.

The HATS (Head and Torso Simulator) is a device providing an acoustically accurate representation of an adult. Compliant with numerous measurement standards, this simulator is representative of auditory capabilities and adaptable to a wide variety of acoustic products such as telephone handsets, headphones, etc.

The EMC chamber is FACTEM's latest investment in terms of acoustic equipment. Installed in 2022 by the company Jacques Dubois (a member of Normandie Aerospace), the EMC chamber allows our electronics experts to perform pre-qualification tests for electromagnetic compatibility on various products, according to aerospace, military, and civilian testing standards.

Thus, the combination of human expertise and testing capabilities enables FACTEM to present a value proposition for entities seeking external resources for their activities. Moreover, the knowledge of regulatory standards allows FACTEM to offer a comprehensive solution for investigations and pre-qualifications for electro-acoustic communication equipment.
